The GearSocks Story: Why We Built Our Own Performance Sock Brand

The GearSocks Story: Why We Built Our Own Performance Sock Brand

For more than a decade, SocksForLiving has helped Aussies find socks that actually work. We’ve tested thousands of pairs, stocked the best brands we could find, and listened to every complaint runners, hikers, tradies, and everyday movers had about their socks.

And over time, a pattern kept showing up.

People weren’t asking for more colours or more hype.

They were asking for socks that didn’t blister, didn’t slip, didn’t fall apart, and didn’t cost a fortune for what they were.

The truth is, a lot of big-name brands make their socks for a couple of dollars overseas and sell them for $30–$40. Average materials. Average construction. Big marketing budgets. And you end up paying for it.

We knew we could do better.

That’s where GearSocks began.

---

Built Because “Good Enough” Wasn’t Good Enough

GearSocks didn’t start as a business plan.

It started as a frustration.

We kept seeing the same issues:

• Socks that faded after their first wash
• “Performance” socks that didn’t perform
• Blisters that shouldn’t happen
• Feet that felt beaten up after a run or a shift
• Prices that didn’t match the quality

So we asked a simple question:

What if we built the socks we wish existed?

  • Not the cheapest.
  • Not the trendiest.
  • Just the best — engineered for people who actually move.
  • Made right here in Australia.

---

Why Australian Made Matters

We could have gone offshore. It would’ve been cheaper. Faster. Easier. We would make much more.

But that’s not the point.

We wanted:

• Better materials
• Better workmanship
• Better consistency
• Better accountability
• And a product we could stand behind without crossing our fingers

No shortcuts!

Australian manufacturing gives us that.
It lets us work directly with the engineers knitting the socks.
It lets us test, tweak, refine, and rebuild until the product is right — not just “good enough”.

And it keeps the value where it belongs: in the product, not the marketing.

From Retailer to Maker: The Turning Point

SocksForLiving will always be part of our story.

We still stock a heap of amazing brands, and we’re proud of that.

But something changed when we launched our first GearSocks prototypes.

Athletes started asking for more.
Walkers started telling us their feet felt better.
Runners told us they’d finally found socks that didn’t rub.
People told us they lasted longer than anything they’d worn.

The feedback wasn’t polite — it was passionate. We know they can continue to be improved. We are here listening.

That’s when we realised GearSocks wasn’t just another product on the shelf.

It was the direction we were meant to go.

What GearSocks Stands For?

GearSocks is built on three principles:

1. Performance first

If it doesn’t solve a real problem — it doesn’t get made.

2. No BS

No fake tech.
No made-up features.
No marketing fluff.
Just socks that do the job.

3. Built for the grind

For runners.
For hikers.
For workers.
For anyone who puts in the effort and expects their gear to keep up.

Finally, we stand for NO SHORTCUTS!

---

What’s Next for GearSocks?

We’re just getting started.

We’ve launched The Keeper — our everyday performance sock.
We’re about to release The Defender — built for cold weather and tough conditions.

And we’ve got more in development, each one designed to solve a real-world problem we’ve seen over years of fitting, testing, and listening.

GearSocks isn’t about being the biggest brand.

It’s about being the most trusted.

If we can help one more runner avoid a blister, one more worker finish a shift without sore feet, or one more hiker feel confident in their gear — that’s the win.

---

Why This Change Matters

This shift isn’t about abandoning where we came from.
It’s about doubling down on what we believe in.

SocksForLiving taught us what people need.
GearSocks lets us build it.

We’re still here.
Still listening.
Still obsessed with making socks that actually perform.

And now, we’re doing it under a name that reflects what we stand for.

GearSocks — built for the grind.
