I wear these socks for hiking in conjunction with a high quality cushioned inner sole in my hiking shoes. The moisture wicking properties of the sock are excellent, leaving my feet relatively dry after a long hike on a warm day. The padded heal has greatly reduced incidences of blistering, which I was previously prone too, although the sock does wear away relatively quickly at the site of rubbing. This is my fifth pair in 5 years. The bulkiness of the padded toe area does force one of my little toes inwards which can result in some inflamation and discomfort after a long hike. Otherwise a very comfortable sock. Would give five stars if the sock had better longevity.
