The Best Socks for Chilblains and Cold Feet: Keep It Simple

If you’ve got cold feet, or worse, chilblains, you probably don’t want to read a 3,000-word review comparing 47 different socks, 19 types of wool and whether a sock performs better at 800 metres above sea level.

You just want your feet to stop freezing. Fair enough. We get customers who contact us and say something along the lines of: “I get chilblains. My feet are always cold. What socks should I buy?”

The Grind: The Marathon Sock Guide You Didn’t Know You Needed (But Definitely Do)

If you’ve ever asked, “Which marathon running socks should I wear?” — congratulations, you’re officially a runner. Because nothing says “I’m taking this seriously” like stressing over the fabric wrapped around your toes.

Athletes of all shapes and sizes love word‑of‑mouth recommendations. Someone in your training group swears by a sock they bought in 2016, another insists you need “maximum cushion or you’ll lose toenails,” and someone else is running barefoot because they watched a documentary once.

Conquering Victoria’s Rooftop: Winter Testing the Buffalo on Mt Bogong

There’s a particular kind of silence you get on Mt Bogong in winter.

It’s the sort of silence where you can hear your own breathing, the crunch of snow under your boots and, occasionally, the quiet voice in your head asking why you thought carrying 30 kilos up a 1,986-metre mountain was a good idea.

At 1,986 metres, Mt Bogong is Victoria’s highest peak. In summer, it’s a serious walk. In winter, throw in snow, ice, crampons, mountaineering boots and a pack loaded with enough equipment to make a small expedition, and things get considerably more interesting.

So naturally, one of our team decided it was the perfect place to test a pair of GearSocks Buffalo Lightweight Hiking socks.
