Your gym has changed. Your socks probably haven’t.
Once upon a time, going to the gym might have meant lifting some weights, sitting down, lifting some more weights and finishing with ten minutes on the treadmill.
Your socks weren’t exactly being put through military service.
That’s not how everyone trains anymore.
Hyrox, CrossFit and functional fitness have changed the game.
You’re running. You’re pushing. You’re pulling. You’re jumping. You’re carrying. You’re lunging. You’re lifting. Then you’re running again.
And your feet are right in the middle of all of it.
So here’s the question:
Why are we still wearing the same generic socks we wore when we were doing three sets of bench press and calling it a workout?
The problem isn’t that your old socks don’t work
They probably do.
You can train in your old school socks. Your Vans socks. The socks you bought from Kmart. The random pair that turned up in your Christmas stocking.
No problemo.
If they stay comfortable and stay where they’re supposed to, they’ll probably get the job done.
But there’s a point where your socks start becoming part of the problem.
You sweat. Your socks get wet.
They start moving around inside your shoes. Your foot moves.
The sock moves. Friction increases.
And when you’re trying to drive through the floor, push a sled, jump, land, change direction or run hard, you want your foot to feel planted.
Not like it’s swimming around inside a wet sock.
That’s the problem a good training sock is trying to solve.
Not making you stronger. Not giving you superpowers.
Not shaving 30 seconds off your Hyrox time.
Just keeping things where they should be.
Your foot. Your sock. Your shoe. Together.
After all the best socks are those you don’t think about.
What makes a good gym sock?
We don’t think gym socks need to be complicated.
They just need to do a few things really well.
1. Stay put
This is number one.
When you’re training hard, you don’t want your sock bunching up, slipping down or moving around inside your shoe.
A secure fit helps keep the sock where you put it.
Sounds simple. Because it is.
2. Manage sweat
We all sweat.
Some of us considerably more than others. When a sock gets wet, things change.
A good technical sock can help manage moisture and keep the foot feeling more comfortable during a hard session.
Because there’s a big difference between:
“I’m sweating.”
and
“My socks are absolutely soaked.”
3. Give you a more planted feel
This is where we think gym and functional training socks have an opportunity to do something slightly different from a traditional running sock.
Running socks are fantastic at what they’re designed to do.
But functional training involves more than running.
You’re planting your feet. You’re pushing sideways. You’re jumping. You’re landing. You’re driving through the floor during a lift.
You’re moving from a run straight into a station and then straight back into a run.
A good training sock should help create a secure, supported feel underfoot.
We’re not saying a sock is going to magically stabilise your foot or make you lift more weight.
We’re saying that when you’re producing force, feeling connected to your shoe and the floor is a good thing.
And if you’re doing HYROX or another functional event this matters.
4. Seamless toes
Nobody goes to the gym hoping to feel a bloody seam rubbing across their toes.
A seamless or low-profile toe construction simply makes the sock less noticeable inside your shoe. And that’s exactly what a good sock should do.
5. Compression — If You Like Your Socks Loose, Look Away
Let’s address this one now.
These socks are not a loose, floppy sock. They’re built it to have a secure fit around the foot, with mild compression to help keep everything where it belongs.
Some people love that feeling. Some people absolutely hate it.
And that’s okay.
If you like your socks loose and relaxed, this probably isn’t going to be your favourite sock.
But if you’re running, lifting, jumping, pushing sleds and generally throwing yourself around a gym, we’d rather have a sock that stays put.
The goal isn’t to squeeze your foot.
It’s to give you a secure, supportive feel without turning your sock into a tourniquet.
If you want loose, we’ve got plenty of other socks for you.
If you want your sock to stay put, you’re going to like this one.
Why HYROX Has Changed the Conversation
Hyrox is a great example of why this matters.
It’s not simply a running event. It’s not simply a strength event.
It’s both.
You run. Then you push a sled.
Then you run. Then you pull.
Then you run. Then you do burpees.
Then you run. Then you row.
Then you run. Then you carry.
Then you lunge. Then you run again.
Your feet are being asked to do almost everything.
That’s very different from choosing a sock purely for running or purely for lifting.
And this is where we think the right tool for the job matters.
A good running sock will absolutely work in HYROX or any other functional fitness event.
But imagine a sock designed specifically around the combination of:
Running + lifting + jumping + pushing + pulling + sweating.
That’s the direction we’re interested in.
So, What Are the Best Gym Socks?
There isn’t one perfect gym sock for everyone.
Some people want maximum cushioning. Some want lightweight.
Some want no-show. Some want a sock that can handle the gym and their next run. And some want something specifically designed for functional training.
So here are some options worth considering.
1. GearSocks Elite — For the No-Show Crowd
Some people want a sock. Some people want a sock that looks like they’re not wearing a sock.
If you’re in the second group, GearSocks Elite is worth a look.
It’s a low-profile technical option for people who prefer a no-show style while still wanting a proper performance sock underneath their training shoes.
Lightweight, supportive, comfortable and designed to largely disappear once your shoes are on.
Best for: Gym sessions, strength training, general fitness and anyone who hates visible socks.

2. Coming Soon: Something We’re Building
Okay.
This one has been a while in the making.
We’ve been working on a sock specifically for gym, HYROX and functional athletes for some time.
Testing. Tweaking. Testing again.
Because we’ve always found it slightly strange that gym and functional fitness athletes are often left choosing between a running sock and a generic sports sock.
There’s nothing wrong with a good running sock.
But we kept asking:
Surely there’s a better tool for this job?
So we’ve started building one.
We’re not ready to show you everything yet.
We’ve been testing different constructions, tweaking the fit and working out what actually matters when you’re running, lifting, jumping, pushing and pulling in the same session.
The brief is pretty simple:
A sock that helps your foot feel secure and planted when you’re training hard.
That’s all we’re saying for now. We’re keeping a few details under wraps. But we’re getting close. And there’s another reason we’re excited about it.
We’re not interested in making this a $35+ sock. There are some excellent expensive technical socks out there. But we also know that not everyone wants to spend that sort of money on a pair of socks.
We’ve been selling socks for around 15 years. We’ve sold hundreds of thousands of pairs. We’ve seen what works. We’ve seen what doesn’t. We’ve tested socks ourselves. We’ve listened to customers.
And we’ve got a pretty good idea of where you can spend money on a sock and where you’re just paying for the packaging.
So we’re stripping this one back. Give your foot what it needs. Keep the sock where it belongs. Manage the sweat. Make it comfortable. Don’t make it stupidly expensive.
Coming soon.
We’re testing the final version now.
A small batch is on the way.
Expected arrival: October/November 2026
If you’re into HYROX, CrossFit, functional fitness or just training like a savage, you might want to keep an eye on this one.

3. Thorlo Experia — If Cushioning Is Your Thing
If cushioning is high on your list, Thorlo Experia is a very good option.
It’s a performance-oriented sock without the old-school bulk you might associate with traditional thick athletic socks.
It’s also a good crossover option for people who train in the gym and run regularly.
Best for: Mixed gym sessions, treadmill work, running and people who like a little more cushioning.

4. Balega Hidden Comfort — The Comfort Choice
If comfort is number one, Balega Hidden Comfort is an obvious contender.
It’s cushioned, comfortable and designed to sit securely in the shoe. It’s another good crossover option if your training includes both running and gym work.
Because sometimes you don’t need a completely different sock.
You just need a good one.
Best for: Gym + running, comfort-focused athletes and everyday training.

5. A Good Technical Running Sock
And here’s where we’ll probably surprise you. You don’t necessarily need a gym-specific sock.
A good running sock can be absolutely fine in the gym.
In fact, if you already run regularly, you may already own the perfect sock.
Technical running socks are designed to manage sweat, reduce friction and stay securely on the foot. Those qualities are just as useful when you’re lifting weights.
The difference is that functional training adds more lateral movement, explosive work, jumping, landing and planted positions.
That’s where we think a purpose-built training sock has an advantage.
Right tool. Right job.
Stay tuned because it’s coming.

The Five-Minute Reality Check
Here’s a simple test.
Think about your last hard training session.
Did your socks get sweaty? Did they move around? Did you find yourself pulling them back into place? Did your feet feel like they were sliding around inside your shoes? Did you finish the session wishing you had a little more support?
If the answer is no, fantastic.
Keep wearing your current socks.
Seriously.
We’re not here to tell you that your $5 socks are going to destroy your athletic career. But if you’ve answered yes to a few of those questions, there’s your problem.
And that’s exactly the sort of problem we’re trying to solve.
You Don’t Need a Better Sock. Until You Do.
That’s probably the most honest way we can put it.
You can train in almost anything. But when you’re training hard, little things start to matter.
A shoe that moves. A shirt that gets heavy with sweat. A grip that isn’t quite right. And a sock that’s wet and sliding around inside your shoe. None of them will necessarily ruin your workout.
But why put up with them?
The whole point of good training gear is to remove distractions.
You want to concentrate on the workout. Not your socks.
Why We’re Building This
There’s a reason we’re comfortable talking about this. We’ve spent years in the trenches of functional fitness, military-inspired workouts, and para-military environments.
That background doesn't make us better than anyone else. It just means we understand the mechanics of hard training because we’ve lived it.
We see it all the time: another quick-buck product slapped together as a checkout upsell when you buy a pair of sports shoes.
We aren't here to make an accessory. We’re building a piece of equipment that solves a problem when you’re under tension.
Sure-footedness.
When your workout looks like:
Run. Lift. Jump. Push. Pull. Sweat. Repeat.
That’s its job.
So, What’s the Best Gym Sock?
The honest answer?
The one that solves your problem.
If you want a no-show sock, look at GearSocks Elite.
If you want cushioning, look at Thorlo Experia.
If comfort is your priority, Balega Hidden Comfort is a great option.
If you’re already running, a good technical running sock might be all you need.
But if you’re training for HYROX, CrossFit or functional fitness and want a sock designed around the entire workout…
Watch this space.
We’ve been working on it for a while. We’re testing it. We’re tweaking it. And we’re getting close. We’re keeping the price sensible. We’re keeping the design purposeful.
And we’re keeping a few of the good bits secret for now.
